Steering Committee

The Steering Committee guides the development of ECHORN’s policies. Its members include ECHORN’s Principal Investigator, two program officers from the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), and senior faculty from Yale University.

Faculty Advisory Board

The Faculty Advisory Board (FAB) acts as a consultant to the ECHORN Coordinating Center (ECC) and the island sites. The FAB includes faculty from a variety of disciplines and areas of expertise.

ECHORN Coordinating Center (ECC)

The ECHORN Coordinating Center (ECC) is based at the Yale University School of Medicine. The ECC works with the ECHORN study sites in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the research study. The ECC also coordinates capacity strengthening activities at sites and in the Caribbean region.

Dr. Carol Oladele, Junior Research Faculty, Recognized for Work on Hypertension

Dr. Carol Oladele, junior research faculty, was awarded the Saunders Hall/Shulman Hypertension Award for her presentation at the 2013 ISHIB Annual Meeting. Dr. Oladele’s presentation was entitled “Acculturation and Risk Factors for Heart Disease Among Jamaican Immigrants: Findings from the JAMUS Study.” She was recognized at ISHIB’s 28th Annual International Interdisciplinary Conference entitled “Complications of Hypertension: New Approaches to the Diagnosis and Management in African Americans.” The conference was held in San Francisco on May 17-19, 2013.

Second Annual ECHORN Symposium

The second annual ECHORN Symposium featured an interactive learning workshop that combined active learning with targeted mentorship. The workshop was designed for health research professionals and graduate students who work with populations in or from the Caribbean. Participants selected a learning track: research methodology or strategies for effective research management.

First Annual ECHORN Symposium

ECHORN network members gathered to prepare for the launch of the data collection phase of the ECHORN project. The Symposium featured activities that highlighted research implementation strategies and tools, reviewed clinical procedures, and imparted lessons on capacity and community strengthening within the ECHORN collaborative and beyond.
